■Title
”Creating Legal Markets Triggered by Digital Technology”
■ Abstract
Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly attracting attention for its potential to replace or support human decision-making and problem-solving across various fields. In this seminar, Professor Mari Sako will introduce the theoretical framework and empirical research design of the newly launched collaborative project with Hitotsubashi University, “Market Formation Triggered by AI Technologies.”
The seminar will first explain the concept of actor-specific decisions, which forms the theoretical foundation of the project. It will then discuss how this concept applies to the legal and judicial sectors, and how digital technologies may contribute to the creation of new legal markets. The presentation will also outline the empirical research plan designed to examine these dynamics.
One of the project’s key objectives is to distinguish between judicial services that could potentially replace legal professionals entirely through AI technologies, and those that—despite the use of AI—still require essential involvement from legal experts (“Lawyer in the Loop”).
